Although modern Halloween celebrations were still forming their identity during the first half of the 20th century, its history dates back to at least the late 1500s, as good old William Shakespeare mentions the archetypal 'beggar at Hallowmas' in The Two Gentleman of Verona, one of his earliest plays. Beggars at Hallowmas referred to the poor who would beg door to door on November 1st, a.k.a. All Hallows or All Saints Day.
